Iwent to twoCSE meetings today. It was so interesting to see how themotherinteracted with thehigh schoolfaculty. (the afternoon CSEmeetings weapos;re for the high school kids) They began each meeting by going around in a circle and introducing themselves. One of the meetings was about a child who had a disability in math. They have the accommodation to leave the room when taking tests and to get double the amount of time on the exam. Also he has any test read to him. However he wasnapos;t using this tool that the school provided. His mother explained that as a 15 year hold he felt embarrassed to leave the room and take the exam somewhere else. He doesnt want his friends making fun of him. So therefore he wasnapos;t getting the accommodations and was doing poorly. Ithought it was so interesting because Iremember when Iwas in high school neverreally noticing thekids that got to leave the room when taking tests. Iwas always concerned with the test that Iwas about to take. Inever thought how that kid must feel having to leave. The CSE committee decided that he best solution for this problem was to maybe have all teachers give the exams to the resource rooms. This way the child doesnapos;t even have to go into the classroom on a test day. They just go straight to the resource room and donapos;t have to get up in front of their class and walk down that way anyway. It would prevent the child from being embarassed. I thought it was a pretty good idea.
The other meeting that Iwent to was more unorganized. The mother didnt show up and one of the teachers was late.
Mrs. Pomeroy and Idecided that Iwould either do my project on eating disorders or on the lowered drinking age. She said that she didnt care if it was in a power point or if it was in a paper format. I guess weapos;ll discuss it more next week.
